MONEENROE NATIONAL SCHOOL
PARTNERSHIP
PARENTS:
We have a fantastic parent association and parent community body who promotes the active wellbeing of our children. Our Mini-Marathon in June epitomises the whole school community approach in promoting active, healthy lifestyle for our children.
STAFF:
Our staff in Moneenroe NS put in a huge effort in promoting all activities in our school. Extra-curricular Gaelic football, hurling, handball, soccer, badminton, volleyball, table tennis and PE lessons are all heavily promoted in our school.
RAILYARD FOOTBALL CLUB:
The Railyard GAA Football club is situated opposite our school. Our
school works closed with Railyard GAA club in promoting Gaelic football.
CLONEEN GAA CLUB:
Moneenroe NS pupils play hurling for the local GAA club Cloneen.
PLAYGROUND LEADERS:
Our senior pupils act as playground leaders to encourage more active movement in the junior yard.
GAA COACHING
GAA is at the forefront of our school. Our staff place huge emphasis on promoting our national games in our school. Gaelic football training takes place on Mondays 3-4pm and matches on Wednesday from September – December.
Our Girls secured a Roinn A Cup in 2022 aswel as Cumann na mbunscoil mini 7s in 2022. Our past pupil Freya Coogan represented our school in Croke Park during All Ireland football final in 2022. Most recently our school won Roinn E county championship in 2023.
Our Games development officer Nathan Culleton offers weekly hurling sessions each Wednesday for all pupils in our school. Our pupils enter u11 and u13 Cumann na mbunscoil school games. Training takes places from January – June on Mondays 3-4pm with matches on Wednesday.
2022 was our first year in which Moneenroe NS entered a camogie team.
Our camogie’s girls were victorious in the Roinn F county championship. Indoor hurling competitions take place in the winter months on Wednesdays.
Our school enters annual Handball competitions annually.
RUGBY COACHING:
Noel Devlin from Leinster Rugby visits our school for a term each year.
AQUATICS:
Children from 3rd – 6th class go to Graiguecullen Swimming centre for 9 weeks each year in Term 1.
FAI COACHING:
William Kinsella from FAI Ireland offers soccer coaching in Term 2.
Moneenroe NS staff offer extra-curricular Soccer coaching in Term 2. Our school enter FAI 5-A-Side competitions annually. 2022 proved a successful year on the soccer field for our pupils.
BADMINTON:
Our Staff provide 6 weeks of Badminton coaching in Term 1 on Thursdays.
GYMNASTICS:
Gymnastics takes place in Term 3 by an external coach.
CROSS COUNTRY:
Some of our pupils represent St Abbans in cross country competitions.
IRISH DANCING:
Our Pupils perform Irish Dancing during seachtain na Gaeilge. Dance classes
take place with Royal Dance Academy in term 3.
BASKETBALL:
Basketball takes place during lunch time on the senior yard.
CRICKET:
Cricket with Leinster coach Bernard O Mara takes place in Term 1 for 6 weeks.
CIAN MOONEY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT:
Our school takes part in a Gaelic Football and Hurling Blitz in memory of former past pupil Cian Mooney in Term 2.
RACE DAY:
Race day takes place in June.
MINI-MARATHON:
Our 5km Mini-Marathon takes place in June around our village. Our staff,
Parents Association and whole school community do fantastic work in facilitating this initiative for our pupils.
SPORTS DAY:
Sports day takes place in Term 3.
